John Patrick Murphy 68 of Medway died peacefully October 13 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his wife Elena, and his four children. The oldest of five, he was born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, on September 27, 1943, the son of Mary Ida (Slavin) Murphy of Natick and the late John B. Murphy. Mr. Murphy spent his childhood on the island. Mr. Murphy led a successful career in sales and served as an expert in clean room technology. Mr. Murphy served in Army Medical Corps during the Viet Nam War and was stationed in Japan. His favorite place to be was at the family cottage on Prince Edward Island with his children, their families and grandchildren. Vacations were spent laughing with close cousins, family, and friends. He was an avid tinkerer, history buff, collector of gently-used boats, cars and tools. A most beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, he is survived in addition to his mother by his wife of 41 years Elena (Mancuso) Murphy, and his four children, Heather and Michael Gearty of Littleton, Daniel and Paola Murphy of Medway, Kathleen Bosse of Medway, and Rebecca and Delio Susi of Somerville. He is also survived by his siblings, Kenneth and Patricia Murphy of Hopedale, Michael Murphy of Falmouth, Mrs. Russell (Arlene) Betteridge of Barre, and Ms. Lois Murphy of Norwalk, CT. He also was the beloved grandfather, affectionately known as Poppy, of eight: Shea and Ella Gearty, Pilar and Cecilia Murphy, Brendan and Claire Bosse, and Amelia and John Patrick Susi. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. His funeral will be held on Monday October 17 from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home (www.ginleyfuneralhomes. com) 3 Barber St. Medway at 9:15 followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church at 10:00 Burial will be private. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 4-8. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Project at 4899 Belfort Rd., Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
