Gerald “Gerry”
Gunrud, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and
friend, passed away unexpectedly on September 20, 2024, at the age of 81. Known
affectionately as GG to his family and Gerry to his friends, he leaves behind a
legacy of wit, perseverance, and dedication to his craft.
Gerry
was married to his wife, Betty, for 57 years. Together, they built many
memories, raising two children – Kenny and Tracy and her husband Matthew. He
was a grandfather and was very proud of his grandchildren, Danny, Marion, and
Gwen.
He was
predeceased by his parents George C. and Marion (Sawyer) Gunrud,
and his brother Neil C. Gunrud.
Gerry
was a graduate of Natick High School and a member of DeMolay. He earned a
degree in mechanical engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology, where
Gerry also played on the men’s softball team. He was an auto-mechanic working
for Proctor the Auto Doctor in Natick, MA, and later became the owner. Gerry
bought his New Hampshire farm in 1973, where he spent his life building race
cars for both dirt track and ice racing. He was a member of the Lakes Region
Ice Racing Association. Gerry also worked at DiPrizio’s for many years. Even in
retirement, he continued his work as a mechanic, repairing small engines from
his home shop.
Gerry
was a man of many interests – cheering for the Bruins, the Red Sox and the
Patriots. Spending time with his family (with some NASCAR on in the
background). Gerry was a member of the men’s bowling and softball leagues. He
also loved animals, especially his adopted cat, Yin Yang, who became his loyal
companion in his later years.
He will
be remembered by his wife Betty, son Kenny, daughter Tracy and son-in-law
Matthew, his grandchildren, and his many relatives and friends (and his cat).
A time
of visitation and a celebration of Gerry’s life will be held at Lord Funeral
Home, 23 Club Lane, Wolfeboro, NH on Saturday, October 26, 2024. The visitation
will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Celebration of Life service will be held
at 3 p.m.
