David Eugene Egan, 70, of Staffordsville, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, October 24, 2013, at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in Radford, VA after a long illness. Born in Boston, Mass. on January 26, 1943, he was a son of the late William Blaze Egan Sr. and Amelia Bates Cartmel Egan Schlemmer; and stepson of the late Warren Schlemmer. David was proud to be a printer by trade, had worked for himself and retired from the print shop at Virginia Tech. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm with 19th Chemical Company attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He had been a member of the Masonic Lodge AF&AM and the VFW. He was preceded in death by his wife Gail Ryan Egan. Interment was in The Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Dublin. Family services were private. The Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke was in charge of the arrangements.
