U.S. Veteran Woodbury, C. Douglas of South Dennis died
on Sunday, March 6 at the age of 68.
Doug was born and raised in Natick, the son of the late
E. Davis and Corinne (Robinson) Woodbury. He moved to Milton in his teens and
was the Captain of his high school hockey team. He graduated from Union
College, Barbourville, KY class of 1964. Doug taught PE in the Bloomfield, CT
school system prior to joining the U. S. Army where he served honorably in the
Vietnam War. After returning home Doug started a 40 year
career in the marine industry on Cape Cod and the Islands where he was well
known and respected by many.
Doug recently fulfilled two of his lifelong dreams;
restoring his ’32 Ford Woody Station Wagon and the construction of a post and
beam barn at his home in NH. A member of the Hyannis Yacht Club, he loved
sailing and other outdoor activities including; tennis, landscaping, cutting
brush and felling trees at his cabin in NH. A perfectionist, Doug took great
pride in restoring antiques, both furniture and cars.
Doug is survived by Carolyn “Bunky” (Alcock) Woodbury, his wife of 42 years, daughter Samantha
Woodbury Dearborn of Gurnee, IL, and her husband Tom and their two sons Drake
T. and Rhett P. Dearborn. He is also survived by his beloved sister Diane
Woodbury of Holderness, NH and his brother E. Davis Woodbury, Jr., of
Holderness, NH. Doug is also survived by other loving family members and many,
many friends and colleagues.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011
from 1-3 PM at Morris, O’Connor & Blute Funeral
Home, 678 Main Street, Harwich Center, MA. A memorial service will be held on
Monday, March 14, 2011 at 1PM at The Methodist Meetinghouse, 6 Main Street,
Center Sandwich, NH. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to
Hospice and Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601.
