Linda Marie Schend
1942 - 2018
Mrs. Linda Marie Schend (née Hayward) died peacefully at St. Catherine's
Hospital on Aug. 12, in Kenosha, Wis. at the age of 76.
Linda is survived by her husband, Richard C. Schend of
Kenosha, Wis.; children, Susan (Philip) Hein of Burlington, Wis., James (Jerry
Gulley) Schend of Pleasant Prairie, Wis., and Steven (Sarah Joseph) Schend of
Grand Rapids, Mich.; grandchildren Henry and Rosalie Hein and Oscar and Holly
Schend; and siblings Virginia (Harold) Cogger of Magnolia, Mass. and Marcia
(Richard) Whitney of Land O' Lakes, Fla. She is preceded in death by her parents
Edward and Mildred Hayward of Natick, Mass.
Linda was born on July 22, 1942, in Cambridge, Mass. In 1964,
she graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a BS degree in Home
Economics with a specialization in Early Childhood Development. Linda married
Richard on Feb. 21, 1965, in Cambridge, Mass. The couple moved to Wis. and
raised their family of three children. Linda returned to teaching as a
substitute teacher for Kenosha Public Schools. She also served as a municipal
poll worker & supervisor for over 30 years.
She enjoyed golfing with the Maplecrest Ladies Golf league
for many years. She had a variety of hobbies, from ceramics to cross-stitch,
but a great love of hers lay in the kitchen. To say she was a baking enthusiast
undersells how much she enjoyed cooking and baking for others. She was proud to
be a Field Editor for Taste of Home magazine and was featured in 2017 in an
article about her Christmas cookies. Anyone who tasted her cooking and baking
will always remember her fondly. Her twinkling eyes and infectious laugh were
contagious, and her kind and generous spirit will be greatly missed by her
family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 17, 2018, from 11
a.m. to 1 p.m. with a funeral service immediately following at Bruch Funeral
Home, 3503 Roosevelt Road, Kenosha, Wis. All are welcome to attend and
celebrate Linda's life. A private interment will take place at a later date at
St. George's Cemetery in Kenosha, Wis. In lieu of flowers, please send
donations to Shriners Hospitals for Children at
shrinershospitalsforchildren.org.
The family would like to sincerely thank all the dedicated
caregivers in the ICU at St Catherine's Hospital for their support of and
efforts for Linda.
