Alfred Augustini

Alfred Ernest Augustini, 72, of La Canada Flintridge passed away on October 17, 2015 after a nearly four year battle with cancer.

Al was born in Framingham, Massachusetts, grew up in the Natick area and graduated from Natick High School in 1960. From there, he worked his way through both Boston College and the Georgetown University Law Center, where he received his law degree in 1967. After marrying his high school sweetheart and life partner, Carol, the two traveled cross-country to San Francisco, California, where Al had secured a two-year clerkship with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

A voracious reader, passionate writer and tenacious opponent in the courtroom - aptly earning the nickname "Mad Dog" from his colleagues. Al went on to practice civil litigation in the Los Angeles area for next 44 years, spending many years as a partner at Kindel & Anderson and then Allen Matkins before branching out and forming several firms of his own. Al truly loved the law, and was a formidable and successful civil trial lawyer until cancer finally forced him to retire in 2013.

Al was an avid golfer. He was a longtime member at both Oakmont Country Club in Glendale and Indian Wells Country Club in Palm Desert, and when not playing there he enjoyed planning golf trips to places such as Pebble Beach, Ireland/Northern Ireland and Scotland. He also was one of the founders of the Parodi Open, an "annual" week-long golf tournament/reunion for relatives and extended family.

In his spare time, he loved photography, watched C-SPAN, actively followed both national and state political affairs, and continually educated himself on all types of computer-related technology. He was one of the quintessential "early adopters" of everything Mac/Apple, and was always the first to have the latest and greatest products incorporating cutting-edge technology.

Al is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol, his sons Rick and Jeff (both of whom practice law in Orange County), his daughter Sandy (a teacher in Arcadia), and his five grandchildren - Anna (14), Hayley (13), JT (12), Ryan (11), and Nick (10). He also is survived by numerous relatives back in the Boston area, including younger siblings Steven, Peter and Anne. Al was loved and will be greatly missed.

A private memorial service will be held for family and friends at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Al's name to the American Cancer Society -
