FRAMINGHAM - A Natick young man was killed
and two other men were injured Sunday at 9:24 p.m. in a two car head on crash
on Waverly St. near the Master Service.
Paul S. Aseltine,
24, of 224 West Central St., Natick, was pronounced dead on arrival at
Framingham Union Hospital, where he was rushed by Deputy Fire Chief William
Ellsworth, after being removed from the wreckage of his car. Aseltine was the operator of one of the cars.
Taken to the hospital by Patrolmen Harold
‘Skip' Ledoux
and Robert Salvi. In other police cruisers were James D. Garrett, 21, of 63
Atlantic Ave., Boston, driver of the other car, and his passenger. Gerald
Patrick Lee, 18. of 38 Juniper St., Brookline.
Garrett was treated for a broken nose, and
cuts of the face and legs, and Lee was treated for a broken right arm and head
injuries. Garrett is a former resident of Harwood Rd. in Natick.
According to police Aseltine
was proceeding toward Natick and Garrett was headed toward Framingham when the
vehicles were in collision near No. 190 Waverly St. Both cars were heavily
damaged.
Patrolman Ledoux investigated the accident,
assisted by Registry Inspector Carmen Mula, Sgt. Dom Ferrazzi, and Patrolman Salvi.
Police arriving at the scene immediately
after the crash put out a small fire which had started in one of the cars.
Traffic was detoured by Patrolman Paul
Gosselin around the accident scene via Coolidge and Beaver Sts.
Aseltine was pronounced dead at the hospital by District
Medical examiner Dr. Antonio A. Matarese of Framingham.
The victim was born in Framingham the son
of Arthur E. and Lillian B. (Merritt) Aseltine and
had been a resident of Natick for the past 17 years. He attended Natick
schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served for three and one-half
years, including ten months with Co. E, 2nd Bn., 3rd Marine Division, in action
in Vietnam. Since his return he has been employed as a machinist at the Judson
Engineering Co., West Central St., Natick. He was a member of Framingham Post
929, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He leaves his parents, his sister, Jance, a brother, Ronald A. Aseltine
of 15 Lindsay St. Framingham, his maternal grandmother, Mrs. W. E. Merritt of
Natick, his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. George Brown of Natick, two nieces and
a nephew.
The funeral will be held at the Wadsworth
Funeral Home, 108 Lincoln St., Framingham, Wednesday at 3 p.m. Rev. Roy E.
Nelson, Jr., of the Park St. Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be
in Dell Park Cemetery.
