Paul R. Kelly, 59, of Vernon, Conn., died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Hartford, Conn.

 

He was the husband of Karen (Derrick) Kelly. They were married for 40 years.

 

Born in Natick, he was a son of Helen C. (O’Leary) Kelly and the late William J. Kelly.

 

Originally a tool and die maker at Pratt and Whitney, Mr. Kelly was active in the labor movement for more than 30 years. He served as a Grand Lodge representative of IAMAW (International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers for the past 20 years.

 

Besides his wife and his mother, he leaves three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kathleen and Eric Brown of Granby, Conn., Mary Kelly of Vernon, Conn., and Christine and Adam Nair of West Hartford, Conn.; one grandson, Conner Brown of Granby; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Judy Kelly of Needham, one sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Robert Mahoney of Ashland; a sister-in-law, Barbara Kelly of Marshfield and Many nieces and nephews.

 

He was predeceased by a brother, William Kelly and a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Joseph Grassey.

 

A liturgy of Christian burial will be held on Monday, March 19, at 11 a.m. at Newkirk and Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, Conn., followed by burial at Grove Hill Cemetery, Vernon.

 

Calling hours will take place on Saturday, March 17, from 4 to 6 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Sunday, March 18, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the funeral home.
