Laura, sweet Laura, the most innocent of us all.

I met Laura in elementary school and she decided that I was her boy friend. Nothing could dissuade her.

When we started the 6th grade, Miss Oakes, in an effort to get everyone to know who everyone else was,  had us all go to the blackboard and write a classmate’s initials and then we all had to guess who that person was. Laura was called and she went up and wrote “ER”.  No one had those initials and finally Miss Oakes had to ask her who that might be. She proudly moved around the room and pointed right at me and said, “him, Ellen Ross”.
