John Kenney

August 13, 1941 - June 18, 2023

John J. Kenney, 81, of Framingham passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 18th, at Tufts Medical Center. Born in Framingham, he was the son of John and Loretta (McGrath) Kenney. John was the loving husband of Mary (Cahill) Kenney for over 50 years. He was a graduate of Natick High School, Class of ‘59, a member of Local 51, and taught at Tri-County Regional Vocational School for 20 years. One of the highlights of his teaching career was taking his class on a trip to Russia.

John had many interests and talents. He especially enjoyed golfing, reading, drawing, and never missed a Bruins game. His family was top priority and he always looked forward to spending time with them and his friends, whether it was at the beach or a backyard gathering. He never missed an opportunity to attend his grandchildren’s hockey games, recitals, and plays. After retiring he enjoyed working part time at the Stoney Brook Golf Course in Southborough. John was known for his dry, witty sense of humor and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Kathleen Donnellan and her husband James of Saratoga Springs, NY, John Kenney and his wife Linda of Milford, MA, and Colleen Sugrue and her husband John of Ashland, MA, grandchildren, Ben, Sara, Nora, Jack, Jessie, Caitlin, and Braeden, and brother, Robert Kenney of FL.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Matthews Church, Southborough, on Monday, June 26th at 11 AM. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 25th, from 2-5 PM at the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street, Ashland.
