Mary Irene (Grady) Foley, 80 of Gardner, MA passed
away peacefully Wednesday, January 12, 2022, in Wachusett Nursing and Rehab
Ctr, Gardner, MA with her family at her side.
She was born May 3, 1941, in Natick, MA the daughter
of Francis and Cecilia (Bourque) Grady. She was raised in Natick and was a
graduate of Natick High School, Class of 1959. Irene, as she was known to all,
had many talents. She was a talented gardener, crafter, artist, painter,
quilter, and seamstress. She was an amazing cook and baker and was known as
"The Cake Lady" of Southborough, Hyannis, and surrounding towns for
over 40 years. She loved violets, Irises & Lilacs and purple was her signature
color. She was the former owner of Hudson Party Shop for many years in the
1980's. It gave her great joy to handcraft bookmarks and anonymously send to
dozens of libraries throughout Massachusetts. She fulfilled her dream of riding
in a hot air balloon. She was wizard with a road map, and loved the coast of
Southern Maine. She also had a love for music which she passed on to all of her
children.
She is survived by her six daughters, Beth Foley and
her partner Ken Halligan of Leominster, MA, their children Ryan, Patrick &
wife Erin, and their children, Kylie, Teagan &Ava, Cathy Mayer and husband
Harry of N. Grafton, MA, their children, Charlie, Pete, Jeff & fiancé Erin,
Cindy Lewis and husband Brian Sr. formerly of Sudbury, MA, their children
Stephanie, Brenda, Emily, and Brian Jr. Anne Foley and partner Rich Sherman of
Gardner, MA and their son Nick, Diane Chauvin and husband Roger of Athol, MA,
and their child Sarah & fiancé Geo, and Michelle Murphy and husband Sean of
Leominster, MA and their children, Drew & Jack.
She also leaves her siblings, Robert Grady and wife
Donna of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Eve Sommers and husband Richard of Hyannis,
MA, Richard Grady and Ruthann Pierce both formerly of Natick, MA. along with
many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, and siblings,
Eleanor and Marilyn.
There are no planned services at this time. There are
no calling hours. In lieu of flowers her family suggest that you consider a
donation, in her memory to your favorite local Public Library or PBS Network.
